ADA FLANGER CLONE WITH MN3007

January 2010 - Here is the new rev5 of the MN3007 version of the A/DA flanger clone circuit. The most noticable addition is probably the LT1054 based charge pump circuit that will enable the circuit to be powered from a standard tip negative +9VDC power supply, just like most other stompboxes. There is also some clarification on the appropriate frequency range to be set when calibrating the finished unit. Finally, it's all wrapped together in a PDF document for easy reference.

Jan 2009 - This is an A/DA flanger circuit like the previous PCBs I have offered in the past, but it has been reworked to replace the SAD1024 (which has become nearly impossible to find) with a MN3007 (or NTE1641). There are a couple of threads over at diystompboxes with the details of how the retrofit was worked out.

All of the work on this retrofit was really done by oldschoolanalog.  He sent me a little daughterboard with a MN3007 and I tried it out in the A/DA circuit that I built for myself... sounds fantastic.  Slightly different than with the SAD1024, but the incredible sweep width and unique character are both all there.  Here's a picture of my ADA build with oldschoolanalog's MN3007 daughterboard plugged in place of the SAD1024...

As an additional option, instead of using a MN3007, the circuit may also be built using a MN3207 or one of the other 3207 type chips (BL3207, V3207, etc...). But instead of powering the entire circuit at +15VDC, like the MN3007 and previous SAD1024 versions, the 3207 chips must be run at +9VDC.  See the power supply options in the build notes, linked below.  This may be worth considering if you want the ADA clone to fit in with an existing pedal setup with everything running at +9VDC, and would probably be fine for a guitar rig, but could result in lower headroom than you might want in a keyboard, synthesizer or maybe even a bass guitar rig.  Some additional trial-and-error may also be needed to get a circuit using a 3207 type chip to work optimally in some rigs, but it is an option.

Another member of the diystompbox community (Cathexis) was inspired to design and build a veroboard layout of the ADA Flanger clone with the MN3007 retrofit.  He also created and posted some excellent sound clips of his build here...
